Donald Trump Jr., son of the former President, lambasted Senate Republicans following the release of details in a “bipartisan agreement” on a $118 billion Senate immigration bill which provides an overwhelming amount of money to foreign countries rather than the U.S. border
Trump took to social media last week to warn the world that the Senate bill was an attempt to “sneak a mass amnesty for illegals” into the legislation.
“Don’t fall for the latest border bait and switch from the swamp,” he stated. “This so-called ‘border security’ bill is just another step towards amnesty and dishing out more endless dollars for Ukraine.”
And that was before details of the bill began being published.
Trump Jr. Not A Fan Of The $118 Billion Senate Bill
The son of President Trump again took to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, to blast Senate Republicans for following the leadership of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on this $118 billion bill.
“Why do Senate Republicans continue to allow themselves to be led by a mentally declining pro-amnesty turtle?” he asked.
Indeed, McConnell has been cited by Democrats as a significant player in getting this $118 billion Senate “security” bill agreed upon.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) praised McConnell for working so diligently on the bill.
“Frankly, I have never worked more closely with Leader McConnell on any piece of legislation as we did on this,” he said. “We both realized the gravity of the situation and how important passage is both for the United States and the world.”
What’s The Problem?
Some will wonder what Trump Jr.’s beef is regarding a $118 billion bill that allocates $20 billion for border security. Admittedly, that is a higher amount to protect America’s border than we’re used to seeing.
The problem is where all of the other taxpayer money is being sent. Reuters has reported on a breakdown of the allocation of funds which includes:
- $60.06 billion for Ukraine.
- $14.1 billion to Israel.
- $2.4 billion to aid military operations in the Red Sea.
- $1.9 billion for munitions provided to Taiwan.
That’s nearly $78.5 billion for foreign operations compared to $20 billion for border security. 66% to foreign nations and wars, and 17% to our own war against invasion at home.
If you need evidence that this bill isn’t as equal as they’d like you to believe, just look at these headlines being regurgitated by the media which either mention border security first and foremost, or even at times, as the only reference in their headlines.
If the media thinks it’s a good deal for the border and passively mentions Ukraine and Israel, it ain’t a good deal for the border and the main focus is Ukraine and Israel.
Some would argue that at least the $118 billion Senate bill has border security included in it at all. House Republicans have offered a $17.6 billion aid package for Israel that does not include funding for Ukraine or the border.
Why are we not doing standalone bills for the border itself instead of Israel or Ukraine? Republicans don’t need to compromise by throwing in aid for all of these other countries, they can simply get Democrats on the record as being in favor of the invasion at the southern border.
