The country music legend Dolly Parton has accomplished many things throughout her career, but one thing she’s never done is perform at the Super Bowl. In a new interview, the 77 year-old icon is revealing why she’s always turned down performing at the Super Bowl despite being offered the chance to do so “many times.”
Dolly Parton reveals she's turned down Super Bowl Halftime Show multiple times:
“I’ve been offered that many times. I couldn’t do it because of other things, or I just didn’t think I was big enough to do it – to do that big of a production. When you think about those shows,… pic.twitter.com/mb0byJYzwD

Parton Has Declined Super Bowl ‘Many Times’
“I’ve been offered [the Super Bowl] many times. I couldn’t do it because of other things, or I just didn’t think I was big enough to do it — to do that big of a production,” Parton explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “When you think about those shows, those are big, big productions. I’ve never done anything with that big of a production. I don’t know if I could have. I think at the time that’s what I was thinking.”
The upcoming release of her rock album “Rockstar,” which comes out a week from today, has Parton reconsidering her stance on performing at the Super Bowl, however.
“It would make more sense,” she explained. “That might change. I might be able to do a production show.”
“Rockstar” is set to drop on November 17, and the 30-track record includes nine new songs and 21 covers of rock classics. On top of that, it features collaborations with superstars like Kid Rock, Chris Stapleton, Elton John, John Fogerty, Miley Cyrus, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Sting and more.
“I really had to be rock ‘n’ roll,” Parton told ABC News of this album. “I did not wanna do this country. I did not wanna do this rock half-ass. I thought, ‘If I am going to do a rock album, I’m gonna have to really, really, really work at it.’”
Dolly Parton once felt she wasn't big enough for the Super Bowl halftime show.

Parton ‘Ain’t Afraid Of Much Anymore’
Though Parton admits that she would have been too scared to do a rock album when she was younger, it doesn’t faze her much now.
“I ain’t afraid of much anymore,” she said. “I’ve always said my desire to do something is greater than my fear of it, and so that was the attitude that I had with this.”
Parton partly credits her loyal fans with giving her the confidence to do “Rockstar,” as she believes that they’ll follow her wherever she goes in her career.
“I think they’re proud for that, and I think they know that that’s something I wanted to leave for my legacy and to leave behind, so I don’t think I’m gonna have any flak from my country fans,” she said. “I mean, how could they resent me? And if they do, well, tough.”

Parton Rips Cancel Culture
While promoting “Rockstar” earlier this month, Parton gave her thoughts on cancel culture, which she described as a “terrible” phenomenon.
“We all make mistakes,” she said. “We don’t all get caught at it. But also when somebody makes a mistake, it depends on who they are. That’s what God is there for.”
“Now, I happen to believe in God; I’m a faith-based person, so therefore I am able to see it like that,” she continued. “A lot of people don’t, but even still, everybody deserves a second chance. You deserve to be innocent until you’re proven guilty. Even when you’re proven guilty, if God can forgive you, so can I. If God can forgive you, we all should forgive one another.”

Parton is a true legend, and there never will be another one like her. We can only hope that she does decide to perform at the Super Bowl at some point in the future, because that would definitely be a sight to see!
