A statue of the Revolutionary War hero Gen. Philip Schuyler that was nearly one hundred years-old has been taken down from the Town Hall in Albany, New York over the late figure being a slave owner.

Statue Removed In Albany
The New York Post reported that the removal cost $40,000, and it took nearly three hours to complete. The statue has reportedly been taken to an undisclosed storage facility until city officials can decide what should be done with it.
Schuyler was a New York senator who lived from 1733 until 1804, and he was the father-in-law of Alexander Hamilton. The statue of him was nine feet tall and contained a time capsule that included maps, coins and other artifacts from when it was unveiled back in 1925.
This just in: a 100-year-old time capsule has been uncovered from beneath the Philip Schuyler statue in Albany.

Schuyler was known as one of the biggest slave owners in Albany during his lifetime, and outrage over his statue began to spread during the George Floyd riots in 2020. In June of 2020, during the height of these protests, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan ordered the statue to be removed, but it took three years for this project to be carried out. Moving forward, Sheehan would like to form a monument commission, seemingly to open the door to get rid of more statues.
“I think it’s an opportunity to get more public input and have a process around what we do on city-owned property going forward,” she told News 10.

Liberals Celebrate
Woke leftists were quick to celebrate the removal of this historic statue.
“We’re happy that the statue has finally come down,” said Dr. Alice Green, Executive Director of the Center for Law and Justice. “I don’t know what they’re going to do with it, but at least it’s not in a public space.”
Green has been leading the charge to rid the city of this statue for years.
“He robbed them of their humanity, their dignity, and their labor,” she continued, referring to what Schuyler did to his slaves. “Labor that brought him money.”
As for what will happen to the statue now, Green said, “I’m certainly in favor of any private operation taking the statue and using it as they see fit. I have no problems with that.”

Schuylerville Mayor Speaks Out
Mayor Dan Carpenter of Schuylerville, a town in Saratoga County that was named after General Schuyler, has said that he is open to taking the statue.
“By no way am I condoning the fact that General Schuyler owned slaves,” said Carpenter. “It was a disgusting practice back then, however within the historical contexts of the village, the Schuyler house we have here, I do feel it would be appropriate to bring it up here.”

This is sadly just the latest in a long line of examples of statues and other symbols of the past being destroyed by woke leftists who have deemed them to be offensive while looking at them through a modern lens. It’s all part of the left’s bigger plan to erase the history of this great nation and make the American people ashamed of their own country.
It’s sad to see that these hateful leftists have scored yet another victory by tearing down the statue of General Schuyler. Here’s hoping that it finds a new home at some point in the future.
