Former President Donald Trump celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion at the federal level.
“We terminated Roe v. Wade,” Trump said to a rousing ovation at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s annual conference over the weekend. “Every child born and unborn is a sacred gift from God.”
The Dobbs ruling returned the power to limit, ban, or allow abortion, to the states. Trump also noted his role in the decision by nominating Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court during his term as President.
The current frontrunner for the GOP nomination in 2024, however, fell short of backing a national 15-week ban on abortions, but did suggest the federal government has some role in “protecting unborn life.”
“We’ll get something done,” he told those in attendance.

Trump Celebrates Dobbs Decision Ending Roe v Wade
Trump’s celebration of the Dobbs decision comes as new reports indicate abortions have fallen just 3% in the year since the landmark ruling took place.
“Nationwide, legal abortions have fallen about 3% in the year since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and the ruling’s aftershocks are still reverberating through American health care, politics and culture,” Axios writes.

That percentage seems somewhat low when you consider the media hyperventilating over what took place when the decision came down. And it’s low because, as intended, states are making their own decisions on the matter.
Blue states are still allowing people to terminate pregnancies as a convenience.
Axios explains, “Clinics in some blue states have seen enormous influxes of new patients, many of them crossing state lines.”

Biden Calls On Congress To Restore Roe v Wade
President Biden marked the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision by tying it to efforts from “MAGA Republicans” who he warned are pushing for a federal ban.
“MAGA Republicans made clear that they don’t intend to stop with the Dobbs decision. No, they won’t, until they get a national ban on abortion,” Biden said.
“The Dobbs decision was devastating, and Joe is doing everything he can do to fight back,” added First Lady Jill Biden. “But the only way that we can ensure that every woman has the fundamental freedoms she deserves is for Congress to make the protections of Roe v. Wade the law of the land once again.”

The dueling reactions on the anniversary of the Dobbs decision set up a wedge issue for Biden and Trump, the two presumed nominees for the 2024 presidential election.
Some have asserted it was the overturning of Roe v. Wade that motivated Democrat voters in the 2022 midterms and helped squash any potential red wave.
Trump has previously credited somebody other than himself when it came to the Supreme Court ruling.
“God made the decision,” he said in an interview with Fox News.
“This is following the Constitution, and giving rights back when they should have been given long ago,” he explained.
You can expect to hear a lot more about Roe v. Wade and Dobbs as we get closer to 2024.
